Copy & Paste EXIF Info (Lightroom Classic Plugin)

A simple Lightroom Classic plugin that turns your camera settings into clean, copyable text.

Copy & Paste EXIF Info is a lightweight Lightroom Classic plugin that lets you generate a custom-formatted text summary of your camera settings and metadata — ready to copy and paste into contest forms, captions, blog posts, client emails, or licensing submissions.

No more manually retyping camera settings from the EXIF panel.

What It Does

  • Creates a custom metadata field inside Lightroom called Copy & Paste Info
  • Lets you define a custom formatting template
  • Pulls EXIF and metadata automatically
  • Generates a clean, copyable text string for any selected photo
  • Works in batch for multiple images
  • Stays entirely inside Lightroom Classic — no external tools needed

Template Fields

You can build your own format using the following fields:

  • {camera} — Camera model
  • {lens} — Lens
  • {focal} — Focal length
  • {shutter} — Shutter speed
  • {aperture} — Aperture
  • {iso} — ISO speed
  • {filename} — File name
  • {rating} — Star rating

Example Template

{camera} + {lens} @ {focal} | {shutter} | {aperture} | ISO {iso}

Example output:

Sony a9 III + FE 400–800mm F6.3–8 @ 800mm | 1/2000 sec | f/7.1 | ISO 3200

A more caption-style version could be:

{filename} – {camera} with {lens} at {focal}, {shutter}, {aperture}, ISO {iso}

Why Use This Plugin?

Lightroom makes it easy to view EXIF data, but not to copy it in a clean, formatted way. This plugin solves that problem:

  • No more manually retyping camera settings line-by-line
  • Consistent formatting across all of your images
  • Ideal for competitions, stock submissions, client reports, and blog posts
  • Keeps everything inside Lightroom — no spreadsheets or external tools required

FAQ

Does this change my original files or EXIF data?

No. The plugin creates a separate custom metadata field inside the Lightroom catalog. Your original image files and their EXIF data are not modified.

Can I use this on multiple photos at once?

Yes. Just select multiple photos before choosing Populate Copy & Paste Info from EXIF. Each selected photo will get its own formatted text based on your template.

Can I change the template later?

Absolutely. You can change the template at any time in the Plug-in Manager. If you want to update existing photos with the new format, simply select them and run the populate command again.

Tip: You can create different templates over time to match contest rules, client preferences, or your own caption style. Just update the template, re-run the populate command, and copy the new text.
